I have never understood why secularist spend some much time making speeches at colleges (that are typicaly fully of other secularist).  when if we truely want knowledge to spread we need to think about this like the enemy.  Give books, and do speeches at prisons ( a place fully of people who would love to attend something that helps time go by, and people who are in desperate need for knowledge) or at underfudinded public schools in communities where there is often as many churches at drug dealers.  These are the people who we need to target for both the reason that the are often the ones who are hurt most by churches because they are taking money from people who don't have it, and as humanist it should be our goal to raise awarness in the most poverty stricken places.

Food for thought -- Why are non-atheists the 'enemy'?  Personally, I don't see them as such, especially since most of the people I care about in life are non-atheists who would love to convert me back into a believer.

I use enemy, because reiligon is an enemy of knowledge.  However I do not think that every believer is an enemy.  Just the principal of creating an enviroment that is so crushing to both the mind and often mental health of people.

They're more of a PITA than an enemy.....

I used to work at a prison where the Wiccans would regularly visit until the convicts started preying on them. Not sure how atheist speakers would go over with the criminal element. Many are theists despite their immoral and illegal propensities.

I think the reason we don't hand out books and all that is because we aren't a religion.

Atheism is just not believing in gods. Being atheist doesn't make you have any special values or beliefs. You are just like everyone else, human. No superpowers to advertise to others.

I would never preach atheism to anyone or push it on anyone. I will speak it when asked, and defend it when attacked, but in order for someone to actually realize they are atheist, they need to come to that conclusion on their own in the end.

I would lose a lot of respect for myself if I used the churches underhanded tactics of mass recruitment just to fatten up the ranks.

@ milos.  Iunderstand that pushing belifs is bad, but providd some of Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, etc.. books to prisonrs fora low cost rate is a good idea.  It allows those who may never get to exprience the education process of even high school, to get higher learning.  None of the seminars I've watch or  went to preach.  They explain the process of evolution to those who question it. people in prison claim to know God for a variety of rason ( i would know I have worked at one).  Many of them do it, because it is what socit expects of them in order to be "rehabilitated.  I am sure that when atheism is the norm you will see more people inprison annoucing their non-beilief.
