Yesterday I mentioned that I thought that one of the best ways to debunk Christianity was with Christianity. There are so many other ways like philosophy, science, skepticism etc..but when ex ministers like John Loftus at Debunking Christianity (ex William Lane Craig student), Dan Barker or the folks at ex minister.org deconstruct Christian apologetics from with in, with their understanding, I think it is one of the more potent weapons in our war of reason.
"Mere Christians" complain that we present them in a distorted simple way, but the thing about that is is because it is true. So many times "they" have no idea that scribes wrote and rewrote the bible over and over again, think that Jesus was born in December or that Christianity today is the same Christianity of the ancients.
Ask a lay Christian on "The Problem of Pain" and suffering and it is likely that they will give you the childish answer that God is testing you-which doesn't answer anything. It seems that the atheist/agnostic community (Price, Carrier, Erhman Loftus, Hitchens etc) is doing a better job of teaching the average Christian about their own religion.
As a lay atheist (degreeless) I am grateful for the efforts of the freethinking community. The more we learn from places like Friendly Atheist, Debunking Christianity and yes, Think Atheist, the better our arguments and reasoning will be in striving for a secular society.
You can agree with me or not in what is the best way to continue our struggle, regardless, thank you to all, even all the commenters here at super awesome Think Atheist. Thanks.
