The cheapest way to go to the moon
Seems to me after reading those two articles that it would be cheapest to use the international space station as a launching point for further space exploration. Using Space X as a way to ship all items up at low cost, you could design the future space craft for actual space travel and not takeoff/ entery. If it is true that Obama want's to push us to the moon again why not stay there. If we had a constant ferry vehicle between the moon and the space station that would suggest we could have a sustainable colony on the moon.

agreed, that's not a bad way, but there are incredible forces put on an object traveling in the double digit mach's. Plus, i would imagine that it would be incredibly expensive to set up and power those magnets.
