Taliban claims responsibility for attempted murder of 14 year old Pakistani girl.

Yesterday the Taliban carried out a 'hit' on a 14 year old Pakistani girl who has been vocal and outspoken on the Internet and in her local community about the rights of women to seek & receive an education. She survived but is in critical condition after being wounded in the head and neck. The Taliban said her behavior is blasphemous and must not be tolerated. And that upon her recovery and release from the hospital she will be targeted again. The misogynistic attitude of extreme Islam is reprehensible but I am totally shocked at the limited protest and uproar of the Pakistani people over this incident. There was protest but in a country of 175 million the few hundred who did take to the streets of a few cities demonstrates a society that must live in fear and ignorance.

"Strength" is one thing, courage is another - Malala was shot on a bus, in which two others were also injured, when she could have been shot on the way to the bus - the object lesson was that anyone who even associates with anyone who resists, is in danger. These kids have parents, who doubtless say, "Don't get involved!" - not an unexpected response, but leaving those few who resist, entirely alone, defenseless.

These girls need protection from local authorities, and need to know that those they ask for protection, are not in league with those who sanction their execution.
