though it comes with a ton of qualifiers making it unclear under exactly which circumstances it would be permissible, the infallible pope has apparently changed his mind on condom use. he's being quoted in a new book as saying that condom use would be okay under certain circumstances in order to prevent HIV. tentatively, this is huge and will save millions of lives, particularly in Africa.
