The Pledge is supposedly not a violation of Establishment Clause because it's voluntary and the Supreme Court has well established that no student can be forced to say the pledge. HOWEVER, in practice, how many students actually know that? In my job with a youth civil rights organization, I have fielded more complaints and written more e-mails to school principals regarding the PLEDGE being FORCED than any other issue.

@Lili: if you haven't already i'd post that to your blog here on TA or the TA forum in order to make sure it gets the maximum visibility. let's get a big percentage of Think Atheist to call these bigots. just, of course, remember to express yourself respectfully otherwise what you say will get lost in how you say it.
thanks for the info.

thanks for the comments.

From the Scientology link:

They signed a contract for a billion years — in keeping with the church’s belief that Scientologists are immortal. They worked seven days a week, often on little sleep, for sporadic paychecks of $50 a week, at most.

My job just got way more awesome simply by comparison.
