congrats, first of all, to Kelly Quantrill for being made a featured member of Think Atheist and please welcome Michel Poisson as TA's newest moderator!

check out the grace with which Christopher Hitchens discusses his diagnosis, his mortality, and the likelihood of a deathbead conversion. read his article in Vanity Fair- The Topic of Cancer or check out his interview on CNN's AC360 (extended version here). reactions to the piece in Vanity Fair from PZ, Jerry Coyne, The Teapot Atheist, and Ophelia Benson.

new study shows that home-schooled students are smarter... doesn't it?

addressing the bible's treatment of women.

debate help: theistic morality is not objective.

belief is about truth, not feelings.

this is interesting from a personal interest angle- PZ Myers' daughter posted a thread on digg telling people who she is and then answering questions.

Judge Walker of the 9th Circuit has ruled that California's Proposition 8 is unconstitutional! reaction is streaming in from all over the place of course (i'm going to offer lots of links because they include some fantastic quotes from the ruling that you can get without having to read the entire ruling)- Unreasonable Faith, Time Magazine, Making My Way, Americans United, The Freethinker, USA Today, Thinking Critically, Teapot Atheist, Religion Clause, and The LA Times. The Onion has their say and it's as funny as we've come to expect from them. of course, opponents of civil rights for all already plan to appeal.
should we expect opponents of civil rights for all to try to enact a marriage amendment to the constitution now? to be fair, many Christians certainly support the ruling but they often do so for the wrong reasons!

why philosophical theology fails.

Scottish Catholics snub the pope.

Cassini snapped this pic of our closest star (besides the Sun of course) Alpha Centauri viewed just at the edge of Saturn's rings. incredible.

angels and innocents- the hypocrisy of prayer.

lots of great videos of talks from the recent Edge conference on the new science of morality.

new study that shows prayer works shows prayer still doesn't work.

maybe god rejects the bible.

Victor Stenger on the new quantum spirituality. and, in what hasn't been a good week for Deepak Chopra's particular brand of stupidity, Michael Shermer takes him down.

"the religious community not only persists, but increases its efforts, to impose sanctions on others, based on their own perverted understanding of human sexuality."

which of the founders was a deist... who cares?

Massimo Pigliucci takes Jerry Coyne to task on his position on the science vs faith debate. Coyne responds.

a black atheist on black people and Christian faith.

Lawrence Krauss- Faith and Foolishness: When Religious Beliefs Become Dangerous.

why must someone die before god can forgive?

when scholars study the bible something happens to them; evangelicals become liberals, many liberals become agnostics and at...

it's never really about civility.

Richard Carrier: how to be a philosopher.

everything you need to know about global warming in 5 minutes. on that subject, global warming denialism seems to have more to do with politics than with science. anyway, a new study clinches it, the earth is warming up.

Thanks again for the service. I agree with the underlying point of the Deist Founders article but think that he's missed the boat on the famous Atheist point. The reason that appeals to me isn't because I think that Brad Pitt is a great thinker and therefore it validates me. It's the value of his near universal popularity and how that will affect the perception of who Atheists for those whom don't know an out Atheist.

agreed Gaytor. i like to see people's faces when they find out that Bill Gates and Warren Buffet just convinced 38 billionaires to give up half of their fortunes to charity when both Gates and Buffet are nonbelievers. it helps to change the perception people have.
