I know that most people claim to believe in some form of deity. However, I think that many people's "belief" is founded simply in tradition and societal standards and not in the actual belief of the existence of a deity. Excluding the churches where people claim speak to god in tongues, most religious people would think that an individual was mentally ill if they claimed to speak to god. I think this shows that even those who claim to believe in god subconsciously lack faith. If these individuals would admit to themselves that they don't believe in god and leave the church then I think that would be a crippling blow to modern religion.
