The stuff I get once I came out as Atheist.

Ok, since I came out as Atheist about 2 years ago, I keep getting emails and stuff from like my mom either picking on Atheists or begging me to "Come back to God". I am seriously getting tired of this shit. I know that once you pick your fight that you need to fight it, and as the person that I am, I cant stand back and watch these people try to change the US into a theocracy and destroy the best idea that man has so far come up with as far as government goes. So like many other people I voice my opinion on matters when they try to force religion down our throats.

An email from my cousin (who we have FB discussions on religion all the time),

Florida Court Sets Atheist Holy Day! Got to love this Judge!
You must read this......a proper decision by the courts... for a change. FLORIDA COURT SETS ATHEIST HOLY DAY In Florida , an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter and Passover Holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians and Jews and observances of their holy days. The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days. The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring, "Case dismissed!" The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, "Your honor, How can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays.." The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, "But you do. Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant." The lawyer said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists." The judge said, "The calendar says April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1 states, 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that, if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned.." You got to love a Judge that knows his scripture! This is too good not to forward

I love how Atheist is not capitalized anywhere in the email as well. How offensive is this email? I think this Judge (if this is real) is setting himself to be overturned in appeal.

Also, I come from a split family in a lot of ways. Not only am I Atheist, but I am also a Chicago Cubs fan in a family that has lots of White Sox fans. My Granddad who introduced me to baseball was a diehard Cubs fan and that rubbed off on me. Many of my family members are Sox fans as we lived in near South West side. To be honest, I got the baseball email first then the Florida Atheist email.

Subject: Three baseball fans

Three baseball fans were on their way to a game when one noticed a foot sticking out of the bushes by the side of the road. They stopped and discovered a nude female dead drunk. Out of respect and propriety, the SOX fan took off his cap and placed it over her right breast. The Yankee fan took off his cap and placed it over her left breast. Following their lead, the Cubs fan took off his cap and placed it over her crotch. The police were called and when the officer arrived, he conducted his inspection. First, he lifted up the Sox cap, replaced it, and wrote down some notes. Next, he lifted the Yankee cap, replaced it, and wrote down some more notes. The officer then lifted the Cubs cap, replaced it, then lifted it again, replaced it, lifted it a third time, and replaced it one last time. The Sox fan was getting upset and finally asked, "What are you, a pervert or something? Why do you keep lifting and looking, lifting and looking?" Well," said the officer. "I am simply surprised. Normally when I look under a Cubs hat, I find an asshole."

I know I responded to the emails but I deleted the responses and don’t remember exactly what I said in them. I know I was pretty mad when I replied.

Today, I got another letter from my fundie mother with a lot of the same drivel in it. "I love you son and I will always love you. I have been praying for you to come back to the Lord and will continue to pray for you." Love, Kathy.

The only thing I can do is face palm because she just doesn't understand and I don’t think has the capability to understand where I am coming from now.

With the upcoming Atheist Week on Face Book, I am about to post Atheist shit every day. I am already kind of doing it now and have getting into some pretty interesting discussions to say the least. I have had one person who I know from HS saying that we all just need to be killed. She also made an Ad Hominum attack on someone else in the thread and is supposedly going have him kicked off FB. She also asked "Why we care"? LOL! I have another person who says that no matter what we say and how reasoned our arguments are, will never change her faith. How can you argue against that?
