Comment by Dan on August 1, 2011 at 7:29pm The link didn't go to the article you mentioned--at least for me. Regardless, we can only hope that Hawking has boned up on his philosophy/theology so he doesn't make a fool of himself like he did promoting his new book a few months ago.
Comment by Nick Lavalley on August 2, 2011 at 10:38am Sorry. Try this one: http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/stephen-hawking-tackles-creation-c...
Comment by Dan on August 2, 2011 at 3:55pm Nope. Hawking still doesn't get it. The article says...
"...the universe likely "popped into existence without violating the known laws of Nature," he says. Nothing created the universe, so in his view there was no need for a creator. That is his explanation for "why there is something rather than nothing.""
The "known laws of Nature" are something; they are not nothing. So all Hawking has done is to push back the question a little. Where did these laws come from? Why are they what they are and not something different?
Hawking is a brilliant man, obviously. I just can't tell if he's being willfully ignorant (or intentionally deceptive) to further some agenda or if he really has this huge blind spot in his thinking.
