I was attending a birthday/4th of July party with family-via-love (my boyfriends family). A portion of it was dedicated to my brother shipping out for military work. He's dedicated, good at what he does, and in big demand. His mother, however much she was proud of her son, feared this was the last time she would see him. We all watched a beautiful family video with some very emotional scenes.
Soon after, mother had a anxiety attack, the first I had ever witnessed. After getting her into a recliner, fanning her, and securing her, family members began chanting and calling upon the power of Jesus' name to rid the demon and heal the ailment. So many family members joined in, I thought it might not be very healthy for her to have everyone breathing on her.
Should someone have called 911? I was really at a loss.
I did I let my niece know, after she asked, that it wasn't necessary to pray because it doesn't really do anything.

Very strange. You should have started chanting for Zeus to heal her. Then killed a goat.

In 1970 I had many Christians "lay hands" on me - to get the GAY demon out of me.
I'm now an ATHEIST, big ol' gay QUEEN in SAN FRANCISCO.
So, tell your family the prayers often produce the opposite effect.... in my case, a fabulous ending!

They kept up the chanting until her symptoms faded. They believed they helped her and drove out the demon. I'm sure their voices may have provided some comfort once she could focus and hear them, but it was creepy to watch.

Jigga-what? Did they handle snakes too? Their chanting may have helped focus her attention. The group singing it's a small world might have done the trick too. I'm glad you survived!

I certainly would have been weirded out by it. I'm thankful that even the more religious members of my family are far more likely to call a doctor than call a spirit for such events.

At least they did get her settled into a recliner first.

She just said, "oh," and shrugged.
