This Christianity thing is at most 2100 years old. When you think of the lineage of humanity, this is barely the tip of the iceberg.

"Christians seem to think that this mystical "Science" thing is an evil deity in constant battle with the all-powerful Jesus Christ (who for some reason needs to be defended) and will stop at nothing until this evil scientific observation is brought to an end. So in simplest terms, looking around with the tools we've built to do so is the biggest threat to their mythology because it all has to fall away when you fill the gaps, so they turn it into a "religion" that they can fight against."

Nancy, I agree with you. That didn't come out exactly right. I don't mean to say that one is based on the other so much as they are very similar, because neither attempts to add anything to the world around us. My goal here was really to water down the term "science" so it doesn't imply anything more than reality, with nothing magical. There's no leap of faith, therefore what you see is what you get. Similarly, Atheism is just accepting life as we see it without adding anything to fill the gaps. My point above might make more sense if I swapped the word "science" for the word "reality".

Science is a system of beliefs based in logic and reason.
This could never be mistaken for religion, yet somehow we have "Christian Science"....
