Why do atheists worry about God?

Ads from the Quebec Humanist Society reading "There's probably no god. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life" will be slapped on 10 Montreal city buses next month.
Why are people who proclaim they do not believe in God so preoccupied with Him?
If the atheists put their faith in humanity, why don't they put their money into something useful for humanity - like supporting schools for girls in Afghanistan, instead of polluting our environment?

I think the pre-occupation with god would not be the case if:
1. People kept their religion to themselves.
2. The government wasn't promotion religion.
3. Their religious beliefs did not impact me.
Unfortunately, the religions of others are thrust in my face frequently. It seems that churches of various flavors have been getting involved in American government. The religious knock on doors and ask you to listen to them preach. Atheists are told that they cannot run for office.
But I don't think that I would call it a "pre-occupation." It's more like an ongoing battle to protect my OWN personal rights to not believe in anything. People will say, "Oh, so what, they go to church, they read a bible, they pray. Nobody is getting hurt. What's the big deal?"
The big deal is that these are the types of people who are flying commercial jetliners into buildings. These are the people who will tell YOU that you cannot use birth control, get your tubes tied, get a vasectomy, or have an abortion. I guess it's better than getting stoned to death for working on the Sabbath or planting two crops side-by-side, or wearing clothing made from two different types of material.
I think the greater question is this: "Why are believers so pre-occupied with Atheists?" They don't believe the stories that you believe, and choose to think instead of placing blind faith in something. For this, we've been labeled "heretics" and burned at the stake. If I had written this blog in a different age, I would suffer the same fate. But it seems that the Christians conveniently forget about this.
The last line is worrisome because it is so convoluted. I'll repeat:
If the atheists put their faith in humanity, why don't they put their money into something useful for humanity - like supporting schools for girls in Afghanistan, instead of polluting our environment?
Atheists put their faith? Faith?
What?
Obviously, this person does not understand Atheists.
First of all, there is NO faith. None. Zero. And secondly, it is assumed that Atheists do not donate money to appropriate causes. I won't say where I make my donations or how much, because I don't need the self-pat-on-the-back (Good Guy Badge). Most Atheists are not a part of an Atheist organization. I do not know if these organizations exist or if they solicit donations for causes. I just don't know. But to assume that Atheists, as individuals, are not charitable is ridiculous at best.
As for "polluting the environment," I suppose that's their opinion of this particular Atheist message. Where the
real pollution exists is in those church signs that typically read something like,
"Today's Sermon: Eternal Damnation in Hell". Like that's not polluting the landscape.
This article is but one example of how believers do not understand Atheism, which is sad because Atheism is the most simple concept to grasp.
I do not believe your beliefs.
Is that so difficult?
