Rational Thought - An Atheist Hymn by Heather Spoonheim
(Sung to the tune of Amazing Grace)

Rational Thought, how pow-er-ful
That saved an ape like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind, but now I see

T'was Thought that freed my mind from fear
Free Thought, just so relieving
How precious did my own thoughts appear
The hour I stopped believing

Though indoctrinated at an early age
Told of horrors to come
Twas free Thought that I did engage
To find my own way back home

A rational mind is all I need
And all that it secures
It will my shield and my portion be
As long as it endures

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail
And mortal life shall cease
All prayers will be to no avail
In death I shall be at peace

When mankind sheds these bronze age fears
And of priests there shall be none
We'll view our ways and praise the days
When our secular world had begun

Rational Thought, how pow-er-ful
That saved an ape like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind, but now I see

Can also be sung to the tune of Gilligan's Island!

Wow, Karen that is awesome.  Heather, that poem is actually a pretty funny revision...

Credit where credit is due - I once worked with a guy whose primary goal in life was to bestow the gift of the earworm. He'd walk the halls whistling something, just to see if he could get it stuck in other people's heads. One day, he popped his head  in my cubicle, said "Amazing Grace to the tune of Gilligan's Island" and disappeared. I don't even remember his name, but I'll always loathe him.

Lol, that is so funny.

I happen to be pretty good at whistling, and long ago found that I can spread a nasty earworm if I whistle instrumentals.  For some reason, when there are no words, people have an even harder time getting the song out of their head.  This is one of my favs:

Oh, I'm sorry - did I post this in the middle of the night and now you are listening to it at work, unable to escape the earworm!?  Oh no!

I just joined and have been purusing the site... oh yes, it is now stuck, and I have philosophy homework... do you know how hard it is to be serious with this running through your head??

You are definitely a phenomenal woman.
