I was just talking to my husband about this today.  I'm so sick of hearing people say "I'm praying for everyone in Japan".  It's so trite, empty and meaningless.  Donating a buck to the Red Cross or any other aid program would be so much more effective and meaningful than a stupid prayer.

Agreed, The $120 I donated will do more good for the people in Japan than every single prayer being offered combined... Heck, $1 would even do more.

I heard a Japanesse diplomat in UK say that there are a lot of scams involved with money being donated to japan.   I see the good god has now sent them snow.

So with you.  The tragedy the Japanese are enduring is unspeakable.  It's atrocious.  I was lamenting it to some fellow nursing school classmates and one of the instructors, and the conversation veered off onto the Mayan calendar end-of-world prediction.  My instructor laughed and said, "It doesn't matter if the world comes to an end-- we're going to a better place than here, anyway!"  I could have vomited.  That's an awesome attitude!  Screw this planet and all its diverse inhabitants!  Let's go to "heaven"!  Makes total sense.

I can see what you mean  and how you feel !

 I concluded that it is not easy to be an atheist in a world like this ... we think in ways theists cannot ...

  the other day I couldn't literally sleep after discussion religion esp Islam with a friend ... he is a great friend and open minded  otherwise i wouldn't dare to discuss  religion with him . Anyway , I sent him a video on his FB about the origins of religion some other proofs that's prove that there are no scientific miracles in the Koran ... actually they were very good proofs and strong ones that I hoped he would take some time to ponder on them !!  his reply was instant and full of bullshit ... I don't think he even read the message or saw te lnks ...  I couldn't really sleep becaus I realized that i should be ready to deal with this bullshit for the rest of my life ..........
