In regards to Surviving a Cardiac Arrest-I have been told by Chirstians and Catholics that prayers can really help. If the Patient survies they take credit for it if he dies well "God was to busy" or had another purpose for the Patient.
In my experience Patients survive a rescusitation from Cardiac Arrest d/t a few factors:
-Down time-Brain death, hypoxia
-Physical condition (progression and type of disease pathology present pre arrest)
-Level of expertise of the Nurses (cause most oif the time Doctors know shit and screw up allot) Docotrs don't get their till the code is already in progress by the Nurses anyway
-Better living thru Chemicals (the Pt's reaction to Code Meds)
-The Reason behind the Cardiac Arrest CVA, Trauma, Arrythmia, Drowning etc.,
-Type of Arrythmia V fib, V tach, Asystole, PEA
-DOA via ambulnce or Witnesed Arrest in ED on monitor
So it all comes down to random chance that he isn't already brain dead and CPR is in progress and he gets the right meds in the correct sequence, and didn't have multiple organ failure prior to arrest. Although I haven't done any statistical study on effectiveness of Prayer in ROSC my gut says it plays no part!
