There is a petition that has been started for President Obama and Congress to eliminate UNDER GOD from the pledge. The pledge wasn't written with these words in it and there are many people in this country that are being excluded by that statement. The inclusion of this phrase is highly divisive and unnecessary. Removing this statement will not take religious people's false beliefs from them, but it will cease to force non-believing citizens to recite a false claim. If you would like to sign the petition I have attached a link. Eventually if enough people get behind this petition the government will have no choice but to listen.

@Jim Scotti - can someone start a petition for that too?
Comment by Dan on June 11, 2011 at 7:55am I now refuse to pledge my allegiance to a nation, under god or otherwise. In high school I was a little more patriotic, and so said the pledge without the "under god" part. Some people substitute "under law," I have heard. I would care about our money, but I hardly ever use cash anymore, and my bank card fortunately makes no mention of any deity. I believe it would be political suicide for anyone to get rid of "under god," and don't think it will happen, despite the many religious groups and nontheistic groups who would support a secular pledge.
