So for anyone interested in watching a doc about greek gods and the such, please visit that site. They mention the parallels of Christianity to this, coincidence? I believe this takes from Hesiod's Theogony, which is the Greek's equivalent to Genesis. Have fun!

 

Edit: The narrator and some of the speakers also think this stuff happened! lovely, just lovely.

Hm. That geocentric model diagram is wrong. Venus and Mercury should be switched.

If i'm not mistaken, this order of planets was established even before Ptolemy.  I imagine their notion of the proximity of each planet to Earth was based on the time it takes each to revolve around the sun, and not their actual distance to our planet.  The distance of the sun would be based on the time it takes the Earth to revolve around it, in reality.

The study of mythology makes it easy to see where modern religious myths came from.  Every major Christian holiday has a corresponding "pagan" celebration.
