one nation under.... what you say????

This has been an issue with me for the longest time.. the national anthem!!! I have yet to rattle that little blurb off for what ever reason. Why the god thing had to get thrown into the mix is beyond me. Under god.. hell it sounds like some perverted statement... lol. How can we be Under anything when we are all over the place, no beginning no end. It kinda falls under the heading of why kids should have to say this in the classroom... what if some very intelligent parents raise their kids... umm Atheist!! Then what? How will the education system deal with that? Oh.. ya, take them to court for standing up for something they believe in. What happened to freedom of beliefs?

Kind of like when I was in boy scouts with the "to god & my country" part. I never said it back then but when I recite it now I don't mind sayin' it. But that is a little different from a classroom.

Comment by Matthew on May 27, 2009 at 10:02pm's the Pledge of Allegiance, not the national anthem. Second, kids don't have to say the "under god" part. In fact, they don't have to say any of it. In the school district where I teach, they just have to stand up. No words needed, no repercussions. Even I skip the "under god" one has ever noticed.

That being said, the "under god" was added in 1954 during the McCarthy Red-scare nonsense. I think it's about time we take it back out. I doubt that will happen anytime soon though.

opps yes, I meant to say the Pledge thing... but because people have been blind sided by these brainwashed techniques for decades.. it just amazes me how many people just go along with it or don't even question it. Same thing when someone sneezes, the "bless you" thing comes flying out of their mouth & they really don't know why that or how that got started.

I just skip it alltogether.
I guess it's more the little anarchist in me more than the atheist part... But it solves both issues.

"Same thing when someone sneezes, the "bless you" thing comes flying out of their mouth & they really don't know why that or how that got started."

I read somewhere that people used to believe your soul might escape your body when you sneeze and open it to evil, so they said "bless you" and meant it literally, just in case it happened. Who knows how accurate that is, though.

But yeah, I would just skip saying that part of the pledge--not that I ever have to say it.

Matthew is absolutely right. And we do have the right to tell our congress to go back to the original pledge. And at the very least if you have kids who say it in school to tell the school district to teach a good history lesson and teach the pledge the original way it was intended when it was first written in 1892:

“I pledge allegiance to my flag and the republic for which it stands: one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”

Does anyone know if this has ever been considered or protested or change it back to the way it was? Boy, wouldn't this burn some bible thumping fanatic's butts!! It's almost like dealing with similar issues the gay communities have, but that's a whole other subject heading we can get started.

You can just replace "under god" with "under laws" that's actually more true
