My uncomfortable experience with religion.

Okay, so this story got me really uncomfortable and just further proved my point that a god does not exist. One of my good friends invited me to this church youth group get-together, so being the good friend I am, I said okay out of politeness. Upon my arrival to this building of lies, all seemed to be normal until it was time for "down time". I had no idea what this was so I just stood awkwardly in the middle of this big room.

So when "down time" started everyone closed their eyes and started to walk around while speaking in "tongues" which sounded like "hab sha halla breth qoo mallah lee frotgath". All I could do was just look at everybody in disgust and think to myself "Wow, really? Is this really happening? What the hell are they doing?"

Now this is where is gets even more weird, one of the kids walking around speaking jibberish, all of the sudden just dropped to the floor and started to shake violently. I walked over in haste thinking he was having a seizure and suggested to call 911, in fear of his health. Everyone just stood there watching him, so I said "What are you doing?! Call 911!" then the pastor came up to me and put him hand on my shoulder and said "No, its okay.....he is having a personal connection with god." I walked out immediately and drove home.

This story is absolutely 100% true. Post a comment if you had any weird stories like mine.

I remember one time when I was about 12. My friend brought me to some sort of church, kids-only night of supposed Jesus-filled goodness. I was never ever comfortable going to these things, but I liked hanging out with my friend, so... I went. It was pretty cool to start off, lots of snacks, movies, games, no mention of the great Jeebus. Then everything went dark. They had turned off all the lights in the common room. It was prayer time. That meant that all of us were supposed to get on our knees, and let the pastor-guy 'bless' us one at a time. Now first of all, I didn't get why the lights needed to be off, second why did we all have to get on our knees while the adults got to stand, and third why did he have to bless us one at a time? The whole thing was just really unsettling to me and even at twelve, I refused to participate. In fact, after that I just wanted to go home.

This whole speaking in tongues thig is completely alien to me. I don't get it, do they fake it? Or do people actually get seizures-type things? So freaking weird...

Mallory - That is pretty weird haha thanks for sharing!

Joseph - Yes, that was my first experience with Pentacostals and it was my last. I agree that speaking in "tongues" is idiotic. Also, good point about god knowing our thoughts IF he exists.

Sarah - Im not sure if it was an actual seizure or not but at that time I did not know what a real seizure looked like in action.  Then when I actually saw one, it was very different. What the kid was doing at that youth group thing was like a phone vibrating on a table and it looked very awkward. So Im guessing it was fake, along with the whole "talking to god"
