5) Seems Uncertain ~ 311.

“I'd like to be, One of the faithful millions. But what I see, Is an excuse for the killing”

Great band and a good song giving a look into the bands secular dare I say Atheist stance.

4) Hard Believer ~ First Aid Kit.

“So don’t come preach about morality, That’s just human sense to me.”

Cool quirky group I like their style (folk/ pop). I found this song through PZ Myers blog and it’s really a beautiful song.

3) Bad Religion ~ Prove it.

“There’s no such thing as hell, but you can make it if you try.”

My all time favorite band (was so before I was an Atheist as well) and I could honestly do a top 10 favorite BR songs or put several of their songs in this ones place but this one seems to fit best right now.

2) Toad the Wet Sprocket ~ Pray Your God.

“Pray your gods who hold you by your fears. For they are quick and ruthless punishers.”

Love the band and the album this song is from is a great one. A cool chant (Latin) that fades out, haunting and cool.

1) Rush ~ Freewill.

“You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill. I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose freewill!”

Fucking Rush! I shouldn’t need to say anything more than that but I will. The band is, well they are awesome through and through. This song has always held a spot for me, especially after coming out as an Atheist.

This list is subject to change, like all my lists. I made this one more or less out of a discussion with a fellow disliker of all things religious and god related. The subject of favorite anti god songs came out of it and soon we had a long list of them. I whittled my list from that discussion down to 5 that always make me smile.

Please share some of your favs or top 5’s with me, obviously ones related to the subject at hand.

I'll have to listen to these. Thanks for posting it.

One of my favs is from Bright Eyes (kind of a new age folksy, I guess)

"The Bible's blind, the Torah's deaf, the Qur'an's mute
If you burned them all together you'd get close to the truth still
They're pouring over Sanskrit on the Ivy League moons
While shadows lengthen in the sun
Cast all the school and meditation built to soften the times
And hold us at the center while the spiral unwinds
It's knocking over fences crossing property lines
Four Winds, cry until it comes

The song's called Four Winds. Awesome song. :)

Sounds like a good one Scarlette. I would listen to it but I am deployed and the ships LAN access won't allow itunes, youtube or anything of that sort.

XTC's Dear God is another good one but as far perhaps slightly lesser known ones I would say 'Judith' by A Perfect Circle.

You're such an inspiration for ways
That i will never ever choose to be.
Oh so many ways for me to show you
How your savior has abandoned you.

Thank(fuck) your god.
Your lord, your christ
He did this,
Took all you had
And left you this way.
Still you pray, never stray,
Never taste of the fruit.
Never thought to question why.

It's not like you killed someone.
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side.
Praise the one who left you
Broken down and paralyzed.
He did it all for you.
He did it all for you.

Oh so many ways for me to show you
How your dogma has abandoned you.
Pray to your christ, to your god.
Never taste of the fruit,
Never stray, never break,
Never choke on a lie,
Even though he's the one who did this to you
Never thought to question why.

It's not like you killed someone.
It's not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side.
Talk to jesus christ as if he knows the reasons why
He did this all to you.

He did it all for you.
He did it all for you

Really love "Never thought to question why"

Good lyrics on that one Bryan, Perfect Circle right? I might heard this one before from my younger brother.

1) "Cry for the Moon," Epica:

Eternal silence cries out for justice...Follow your common sense/you cannot hide yourself/behind a fairy tale forever and ever

2) "Letting Go of God," Jill Sobule:

I think we can try and change our fate/love life and celebrate/letting go of god

3) "Letalis Deus," Echoes of Eternity:

Organized religion/a distortion of the truth/make your own decision/ignorance will undo you

4) "Facade of Reality," Epica:

People created religious intentions/only to feel superior and/ to have a license to kill

5) "Soul Society," Kamelot:

How can we believe in heaven/all for one and one for all/a flawless soul society/my life is just a fragment/of the universe and all/there must be more than I can see

There are more, but those are my favorites right now.

I “worship” 311.    Seen then well over twenty times.

Ya they are a hard rock/metal band lead by James Maynard Keenan the singer for Tool. Even though he is weird, Keenan is brilliant.

Nice list deepthought42. I haven't heard of Epica or Kamelot.

@ Jason ~ I am a big of 311 as well, I haven't as of yet been to a show. My younger brother has see them like 3 or 4 times, he loves that band.

@ Bryan ~ Oh I know who Perfect Circle is, I don't own an album theirs mind you but I know of them and have heard their stuff and Tool is a great live band (saw them in 2001 Virgina I believe). I was just not sure if the song lyrics you listed were P.C. I assumed it was and it sounding familar but I hate assuming things, rather know.
