Where to start? I live in Virginia, the grand Bible belt. I actually never knew what that meant until a girlfriend of mine explained it to me. I grew up without religion in my household. When I went looking for a religion, like it was something you had to have, I read up on almost all of them. I was trying to find a religion that fit my personal beliefs. Funny thing is I wasn't looking for training, I just wanted to find like minded people. In my quest it seemed none of the religions fit my beliefs. Christianity didn't jive well either.
I can say all the religions I read up on seemed cultural. Taught straight from birth to help you with your daily ordeals. Yet, they make no sense. I personaly don't believe praying or smoking some sacrament will get you closer to a "GOD". If there is a higher power I don't believe they care about the trivial things humans have going on in their lives. Your mother is sick, so what? Do you know how many people die a day? A prayer isn't going to take her tumor away. A prayer during mass won't fix that, but maybe a doctor can.
That was a joke. Back to the point. Where I live you are supposed to be Christian. Jesus walked on water, the whole nine yards. You can tell people you don't believe, but wait for the look you get. It's like you had a small goat sitting on your head (Some religions think that is a sign of blessing...funny how that works). I really don't think these people believe this stuff, they just don't realize how much it has been pounded into their heads. My parents used to ask me, "If everybody jumped off a bridge would you?". Well, if everybody herds to a church would you? Point is, if it does not make sense there is no need in trying to make sense of it or faking it. Sometimes you don't want to be part of the herd, unless something is chasing you.
Had to make a revision!! Thanks!!
