I really wanted to answer with a bunch of nasty, incestuous bible quotes, but I imagine that nobody is forced to read the bible. I also want to know what books, but I don't think I have the self control not to say something snarky...

Comment by Dennis Weaver on November 7, 2011 at 2:23am Wait, you can be arrested for using profanity in public? Is this something special in Missouri?
So far, a quick Google shows "Slaughterhouse Five" by Kurt Vonnegut, and "Twenty Boy Summer" by Sarah Ockler, as being banned in Missouri.
See http://www.nbcactionnews.com/dpp/news/education/republic-schools-re...
Further, according to http://www.nbcactionnews.com/dpp/news/education/republic-schools-re..., the vote to ban the books was 4-0. The single complaint was bought forward by a community member who "...doesn't have children in the Republic's school system...".
Moreover, only one of the four board members in attendance had even read all three books.
I shake my head from port to starboard.
Comment by Jared on November 7, 2011 at 12:01pm Anytime I hear someone suggest they should ban a book I just look at them and ask them if it they would then support banning the Bible too on principle. At first they look at me like I'm insane and then I point out all the very mature themes in the Bible and mention the story of Lot in Genesis 19 as easy to point out example. I mean just look at the story it has extreme violence where entire groups of people are killed and you have two daughters who decide to basically date rape their father in a cave so they can have kids. Its amazing how many people deny it until I show them in their own bible (as long as its not a kids bible since they like edit those parts out of those bibles). In any case nobody has ever given me a good response as to why the Bible should be allowed and not other books that are PG in comparison. I'm against banning books and let alone the Bible so its just so hard for me to listen to people be so hypocritical.

Comment by Kairan Nierde on November 8, 2011 at 12:55am Lol, I felt this way when I was 'born again' for a few months in High School--not a time I'm proud of. How old is your aunt?
Comment by Kairan Nierde on November 8, 2011 at 12:56am ...amend that, I never supported banning books. I just got offended by some profanity in a book I had to read for school.
Comment by Kelly on November 8, 2011 at 11:34am My aunt is probably early 60s? I love that only one had read all three books- they probably just skimmed them for the naughty bits- taking them completely out of their artistic context. I'm pretty proud of my reply- not snarky... I don't think?
It's too bad- I love "Slaughterhouse Five". It's a good book- something along the line of "The Time Traveler's Wife" where the main guy jumps around through time, but it's science fiction, not romance.
short and seemingly innocuous...
