Neal, I think I know where you are coming from, but I think many bloggers use the comment approval feature to cut down on spammers and trolls, not to restrict or censor conversation. For example, can you imagine how tedious it would be to have a meaningful conversation about the topic of say, vegetarianism for example, and you had to skim through the dozens of "Mmmmm, bacon!" and "People Eating Tasty Animals" comments to read the comments of real merit?

In fact, I'm surprised this site doesn't get more "Burn in Hell you Atheist commies!" type comments. Morgan, if you are reading this, how do you handle that? Is it even a problem?

i get A LOT of spam. about 5 to 6 a week that would just post right to the blog if i didnt "screen my calls". most of the spam i get is actual spam too. it has nothing to do with what i am posting, its just links to sites trying to sell you something. and if you dont wanna bother with it, its ok. most of it is just junk that pops into my head or crap about what i am doing with my life on that day. im not really looking for subscribers or fans. its just there. it all started out as a way to keep in touch with my family during my time away at work... since my work keeps me away quite a bit. one blog was way easier to keep track of than 25 phone calls
