Tonight I was able to see Julia Sweeney's movie
Letting Go of God in a theatre and am highly recommending this movie to everyone.
This is a one-woman show Sweeny (a former Saturday Night Live performer) put together about how she became an atheist. This movie is funny, smart, intelligent and just a wonderful experience. She is an amazing story-teller and takes us through her very personal journey in a way that is captivating. I was very impressed. Her sweet personality and openness just added to the experience. This is something anyone would enjoy--even non-atheists.
(I would embed something or put a link, but you can find snippets of some of the show's material and the trailer in various places on-line.)
The showing I saw was put on for free by a group based here in Fargo, ND called
The Red River Freethinkers and culminated with a short presentation by PZ Myers, who took some questions, too. It was a nice evening. The theatre was only 100 seats and there was an overflow crowd, even after some people sat on the floors.
All in all, a good day!
