Ah, Heat generating title, and still so demonstrable. I've written about this
before and I'm sure this won't be the last time. This elicits reactions. It's not the reactions that I'm after, it's driving home the point of a continuing correlation that many shy away from stating.
Mother of 4 year old smothers child for saying she wanted to "Go Home". Mother suffers from Paranoid Schizophrenia, is a Christian and interprets this as the child wants to go to heaven.

This is such a common theme. You have a delusional person who believes in the literal interpretation of God and the Bible. They hear something in their head and the next thing you know, they are pretending to be Abraham. If this was a rare incident, you could chock it up to a particular problem with this mother. This is seen over and over and over and we don't change anything. Why is it we don't become honest and say, "You are delusional, believe in the literal interpretation of a religion that promotes those willing to kill their kids to great status, therefore, your kids are not safe with you?" Why is this a hard conclusion? Stacking delusions must be recognized for the faulty tower it is. I wonder if
Andrea Yates would agree?
One of the things that helps me through day to day life and the problems that come up is viewing life as cause and effect. The two causes here are mental defect and religion. The effect is a dead child. As an Atheist I seek to address the cause to prevent the effect. This ability is why I find comfort in Atheism. I don't care that she wants to explain the world through religion. I don't care that she's imbalanced and believes in the literal interpretation of the Bible. But she has a kid. You must remove one piece of that puzzle or we will see the same result, over and over. If we don't do this as a society, we find the definition of insanity staring us directly in the face.
