I went to my second atheist get-together this weekend. Found via MeetUp.com!

Had a great time hanging out with some like-minded people, and lots of interesting discussions.

I don't want to sound like an advertisement, but I'm just really excited about finding a group in my area. So felt the need to share; and to recommend MeetUp since it provided me that opportunity. If you're looking for a group in your area and haven't found one yet, you should check it out.

Meetup.com is quite useful, it's how I found the two monthly atheist meetups in my area, as well as a couple science-based ones.

I've always wanted to try one of the meetup groups, but I still have the frame of mind that people on the internet are strange. :p

Well, to quote the Hatter, "We're all mad here." :D

I know what you mean by once a month just not being enough. Even a meeting every two weeks (two local atheist groups, with some overlap between them) isn't enough.

There's an Objectivist club on campus, when they show I get someone to argue with. =)

I LOLed.

Johnny, I think this is a good thing to advertise. For the most part, atheism is a community that is thriving due to the networking abilities available online. It would be nice to have that face to face time, too.

Awesome link!!!! I can't believe there are actually two groups in my area.

Why do you think I followed your, "slowly I turned, step by step.." =)

Oh, I had it figured out then and I think it's safe to say we are on the same page as far as that goes.. I was a little sad that no one caught the Three Stooges/Vaudeville reference, though. :(

That'd be it!

That site only shows two groups in my entire half of the state, and both in major cities many hours away. Guess it could be worse though, I could live in Wyoming, Montana, or the Dakotas. Idaho also seems somewhat devoid of atheist groups... must be all those neo-nazi compounds. Looking forward to getting back to school in the fall, discovered a campus group in the school's club directory... doubt they're going to be anything like what I hope they will be though. =(
