You have invalidated their existence by saying that. Think about it. If you look in the forums, there is a raging discussion about the pointlessness of life under the title "Do you want kids?" As Atheists, I think we pretty much agree that life only has as much meaning as we, as individuals, assign to it. Otherwise... it's just a big, crazy and pointless accidental existence.

They want to feel like they matter; like they're going to continue living past their expiration date. They want to meet up with dead relatives and friends whose loss they've never come to terms with (because of their false hope). Saying God doesn't exist is like saying you don't matter... which is true, in cold reality.

Why do they get so bent out of shape about the future but totally ignore the infinite past that they were not part of? Besides, I think all life forms matter!

People are scared and irrational. I'm not defending them, I'm just telling you why they're unreasonable. I think I understand the comment you left now, too. No... I don't think you should accommodate them. Tell them whatever you want. I think people should be forced to at least consider other perspectives, even if they don't agree.

I think all life forms matter, too. They matter to each other and to us; we matter to each other also. Don't get me wrong on this: I love life and, subjectively speaking, it DOES matter and is NOT pointless. But, as humans, we insert meaning and importance. I'm sure other animals do that to an extent as well. I think it's important for preserve life and treat all species with kindness, because I think life is an amazing miracle. But... once we're all extinct, we won't matter anymore. There has to be a conscious being to appreciate something.

And see... you don't like that I just said life doesn't matter. That's how they feel, even if that's not what YOU mean.

I know why they are hostile, but you don't have to be hostile to those whom you don't agree with. I have no desire to Kill those who disagree with me!

I know this... but, they hold irrational beliefs. Why would you expect them to have a rational response?

I think this is what has really begun to frustrate me lately. I expect people to be rational and am constantly disappointed (that's an understatement). People are a lot stupider than I ever wanted to admit.

I worked in mental health too long to expect rational behavior from irrational people. It just saddens me how few rational people there are.
