I, apparently, cannot understand the Biblical creation story because it was originally written in a much more expressive language and English cannot capture it's true meaning or so it was explained to me. Or maybe I don't understand it because it is FRAKKING NUTS!

I feel much better now. :)

Guys, how can you hope to understand the wisdom of the creation story if you don't already believe it to be very wise? Oh, you atheists!

I agree with Keith. What's the point? Did the people who said this to you have some education in translation, transliteration, and ancient Greek and Hebrew? Did they have some Linguistic education that you did not?
And what is that supposed to say for the rest of the world's Christians who read the Bible and believe what it says? Are they just following it blindly because they can't know it's true meaning, or are they settling for believing in a creation myth which they admit has been jotted down and translated in a crude, inexpressive way (which I disagree with btw)?

The person in question does not have any special language skills. My impression is that he would probably go to any length to rationalize his belief because he can't fathom not believing. My response was basically that the Bible has been translated and altered so many times that we can't know for certain what the originals said, there is no evidence to support it, and that I see no reason to believe any of it.

I will probably leave it there for now. He is a friend so I don't want to be pushy. He's smart, so maybe he'll give it some thought.

I wish I knew this magical language.

Is this the same one when you speak in tongues??

I guess Hebrew is better at explaining pretzel logic. Perhaps if we understood ancient Hebrew, we could understand why we're born unworthy sinners.
