Forty years since the first human being set foot upon another world.
Forty years since we took that first step, became for the first time a species that had truly left its home and set forth into the universe at large.
Forty years since the world hung by a thread, breathlessly watching TV or listening to the radio, the attention of the planet focused on that tiny craft a quarter of a million miles away.

Forty years. And in honor of that momentous day, I jotted this down, to the tune of the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

It was forty years ago today,
When Neil Armstrong went and led the way
Visiting the moon may have gone out of style
We haven't been back there in a while.
But on that day so long ago
Was born a dream to last the years,
Humans walking on another world.
There's humans walking on another world,
We saw it happen on TV.
There's humans walking on another world,
Kids thinking 'I wish that were me.'
Humans walking on a, Humans walking on a,
Humans walking on another world.
It's wonderful to be there,
It's certainly a thrill.
It's such a lovely view up there,
We saw the Earth, our home above,
We saw the Earth, our home.
When we look up at the Moon aglow,
It's a thrill to see it there and know,
Human feet have walked along its plains,
And one day soon we'll walk there again.
So let me say to all of you
This dream is strong despite the years,
Of humans walking on another world!

Here's to us celebrating the first colony on Mars before another forty years go by.
