I think Neil Carter is right on point in this article. I know, every time in my past that I've come to grips with my disbelief, I wonder how I could ever have believed ridiculous things so easily?
Having faith in the existence of any god is not a position that anyone ever reasons themselves into. At some point you came to believe what everyone around you said they believed. It is not a matter of intelligence. It is a matter of learning to develop our ability to think critically. It needs to be mastered just like a musical instrument and then we have to keep it up to speed.
If we accept God is the answer then there is no point asking any questions. I know educated people in Mensa that are very religious and I know poorly educated people who are atheists but are often more articulate than them.
It is only when you figure out that “Hey, I just don’t believe this supernatural stuff anymore” and hear the words “I am an atheist” in your own mind that the fog lifts. Then things start to fall into place and you get a new worldview.
But don’t kick yourself for believing it. Many go through their whole lives and never figure it out. Sometimes anger is the next stage!! Same thing applies. There are only a few conversations worth having.
I have a reply in that link believe it or not. (Under TJ, same as here)
:D
I believe you because I saw the evidence for your statement :-)
LOL
I see what you did there.
