In our lifetime do you think Atheism will ever be widely accepted?

We have an African American president. 3 major US cities have gay mayors. Before you go to that big Atheist party in the sky 50-60 years from now do you think society will become more open minded toward non-believers?

Do you think we will ever see an Atheist president?

I wish I could say yes. But I really don't think I'll see it in my life time.

Ron Reagan, Jr., son of the late former United States President Ronald Reagan, doesn't seem to think so. When asked in an interview with Larry King whether he would ever run for office, he stated: "No, I'm not really cut out to be a politician... I'm an atheist. So there you go right there. I can't be elected to anything because polls all say that people won't elect an atheist." source

I think that we already have had atheist presidents, they just would not admit it.

As for our getting an openly atheist president, I doubt if it'll happen soon. Maybe in the next century, assuming that the US is still around.
