So, this is my first blog. I recently found out that my local Fox station refused to air the show "Osbournes: Reloaded". I'm not a fan of Ozzy so I wouldn't have watched it even if I had the choice to do so. However, I didn't even have the choice of watching it because it wasn't even played in my city, which happens to be the third largest city in Georgia. It was not aired because it did not fit in with "community standards". My city wasn't the only one that refused to air it. Cities in Florida, Utah, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Tennessee have refused to air the show. I can't help but feel that these TV stations are trying to impose their morality on us.

Any type of censorship is wrong. I hate when people do that. If the show has excessive violence, sex, or swearing sure put it on after 9pm, tag a warning on it, but don't refuse to air something based on so called "community standards."

I think it's less an issue of TV stations trying to impose morality on us and more an issue of taking the programming where the audience is. TV stations are in it for the money. If they don't think they'll draw a big enough audience for a given show then they won't air it. They couldn't give a fuck less what your religion is - they just want your attention so that they can sell advertising. They must have felt that that particular show did not mesh well with the audience in those areas - or more aptly put that some other programming would gain them more viewers. People always think that it's the TV stations that control what we watch, but really it's the potential viewing audience that dictates what gets aired, when, and where. It does indicate that there's some concept of "community standards" in those areas where the show was not aired that would exclude the Osbournes, but that's not a reflection on the TV stations that air there but a reflection on the general viewing area. The TV station didn't want to alienate those viewers and they wanted to draw a bigger audience.

Religion is a powerful force in our society, but money will come out on top almost every time.
