I'm interested in hearing some opinions, serious or otherwise, what the world would be like if there WERE a real GOD. ..All religious scripture would have to be rewritten so it makes sense for one thing..

I tried something like this in a 'perfect religion' discussion and it just digressed to table top rpg standards. ~Le sigh~
If god were real and not an asshole, I'd totally be a smiting paladin!

This is an extremely vague question, Rick, as the number of possible gods is immense. Is it a loving god? One that wants slavish adoration? Can it intervene directly in mortal affairs or are there limitations? Is it concerned with human life, or is humanity just a blip on its radar that gets paid little to no attention, as it is busy with more important, cosmic affairs? Maybe the deity is schizophrenic, and its behavior changes on a day to day basis? What if god was actually the god of squirrels, and squirrels are the Chosen People?

Dave, I mean all the gods ever imagined or invented condensed into 1 all round PERFECT GOD who does not demand humility or put one creature above another or make earth a garden of Eden place; just a plain sane and sensible, fair and square 'ol god; no kind of predjudice, favoritism, atheism fundamentalism..

Aww, I was kind of getting fond of the Squirrel God. She asks for acorn offerings, you know.

I think that if you tried condensing all the various gods into a single being, it would explode in self-contradiction, leaving us with none again.

If there was a sane, rational god that didn't want people misconstruing its purpose/desires/etc, it would be immensely busy making personal appearances every time someone misrepresented them.

Well, I think
if there were REAL GOD ..
Religions would never have happened
All humans would have an instinctive awareness of REAL GOD
Prayers & thanksgivings would be obsolete because we just accept that shit happens and we earn what we get and share the excess.
Evolution would be the norm because REAL GOD don't ever do magic
Homosexuality would still happen because it is consistent with the way nature does things
Population control would have to be managed by us people
No squirrel god
Christian God would be sent back to God college or demoted to pope and be replaced by REAL GOD

Well rick, If a god were ever perfect, fair and just....there'd be no need for one. What kind of job would this god have left to do? The whole drive behind religion is that you have to fear god [even if you feel you are right] for your actions. Would a fair god create a hell?
Personally, the reality of a god would disappoint me, for what would i have to look forward to but the vast boredom of heaven, stretching on forever? Perhaps I would fear death then!

Sinners would be dealt with in some reasonable way if there were any, Kelli, but REAL GOD would not create devils or hell or even heaven. After you croak you just enter a dimension where time does not exist; that's where you likely came from.
