Sometimes I wonder if i'm wrong. What if there IS a God? What would be his desires? What does he want from us?

The more I think about the question the more I realize the obvious answer is.....nothing.

An omnipotent being IS everything therefore he has no NEEDS or WANTS. A supreme being who manipulates the fabric of existence at will lacks nothing nor needs anything.

A God who desires worship, praise and submission is not a God at all. These are qualities of men. And men who believe in such a God are subconsciously glorifying the "flawed" qualities of men and applying them to an idea of a supreme being who thinks and acts like men.

If God does exist, he would be better than that. We just cannot fathom a being with unconditional virtues that does not desire or lack anything in his character.

One of the books that assisted me in losing my faith was Conversations with God: an uncommon dialogue by Neal Donald Walsch. The God in this book is exactly the God that I describe. A God who unconditionally loves his creation, who does not need or want anything, a God who is completely satisfied with his creation and his character. A God who understands that punishing and damning his creation into eternal fire and brimstone ultimately has no purpose since his creation is a part of him.

A God who loves unconditionally.

Even as an atheist, i would love for this to be true. Don't you?

There is a quote, i dont remember the source, that i believe explains the reason why men created God in their image:

"Laws were created by the powerful to limit and control the weak. Religion was invented by the weak to limit and control the powerful."

Hence why God always prefers the underdog....

Tell that to the Pope. The elite took the prized religion just to market it for their own profit.

But yes, it would be nice to daydream of such a God. One that doesn't meddle in our affairs & loves us for who we are. Now I feel silly for even daydreamin' 'bout it.

Have you read the 'short story' Talking to God?

Someone posted it here on T|A, but I can't find it at the moment... You might like it also. I personally found myself thinking "if there is a god, this it what he should be." Its sounds like Conversations with God has a similar deity.
