I watched the SNL parody on the television of ICP's song Miracles before I was aware of the actual song. After discovering the source of the parody, I was beside myself at how little SNL had to do to parody this. It is so ridiculous, that it is its own parody. But it also worried me in that I know far too many people who not only embrace ignorance, but seem to celebrate it as a virtue.

The religious right is in the mainstream pushing their anti-intellectual and anti-science agenda. I see the effects on my family and friends, where reading a book is a boring waste of time and learning is considered dangerous and unwholesome.

Watch the video and beware of the NSFW language.

The SNL skit didn't have to do much to point out the absurdity of this song.

Maybe I am being too sensitive. I have seen one of my nieces drop out of high school and another niece constantly complains about school on her Facebook page, ironically asking why she needs to learn "stuff" in sentences riddled with terrible grammar and misspellings.

ZJemptv gives a good analysis of this video. Also some NSFW language contained in her video.

Not really an answer for the curious.

CQTM. Love the "words to avoid" section and the closing, "Anyway, if you don't know what gender a person is, just be tactful about it, don't make a big deal out of it, and don't be an asshole. That's really all there is to it."

Here's the picture I was referring to earlier, from her FB page...

I think ICP is trolling hard. Just like how Eminem and Marilyn Manson do songs just to get a reaction (the very definition of trolling), I think ICP knows full well what they're doing. Maybe I'm giving them more credit than they deserve, but I will not be easily trolled by grown men in clown make-up.

I believe you are over-thinking it, Galen. The fact that they are grown men in clown make-up should have been the first indicator that they are not exactly running at full mental capacity.

You are, indeed, giving them more credit than they deserve.

ICP responds to the online hatred of Miracles:

Thanks, Galen!

es, most of the miracles we mention can easily be explained away by science, that’s why we say the line “fuck scientists.” Their factual findings sometimes explain away the Earth’s cool mysteries. Part of me wishes they were lying. Part of me doesn't want to know how they really make crop circles. My imagination wants to believe it’s aliens or somethin’. If people can’t relate to that, then that’s their loss. I mean, seriously, it must truly suck to have no imagination about these things.

This is the problem. Not that people don't have some sense of awe or wonderment about the reality around them, but that they must imagine something more to make it wonderful. It's a total contradiction to say that we need to "try to appreciate some of these miracles, bitch", but then piss all over them by portraying them as something that they are not. That is not being appreciative, in my opinion. Quite the opposite.

I mean, seriously, it must truly suck to have no imagination about these things.

I would love to be a scientist. I think I am smart enough for it, but I always figured that I wasn't imaginative enough for it. To devise scientific experiments requires a very good imagination and it is a shame that most people don't realize that science isn't as dull as they think it is. And accepting reality as it is rather than what we wish it to be is the most honest form of appreciation one can exhibit.

ICP can go to. . . oh wait.

Dimmu Borgir all the way! LOL.

Well, this should put all speculation to rest, if it hasn't been already.
