I heard "Officer down!" over the radio last night and I hope that I never have to hear it again.
Me and another officer were called to a "man w/ a gun" call last night. I arrived first so I started to get the necessary information and take a report. When my back up arrived, I briefed him on who we were looking for and a vehicle description. At 12:44am he left the incident location to look for the suspect. At 12:46am he found the suspect's vehicle. I immediately left to back him up. (It was only 2 blocks over)
When I got to the end of the first street, I heard the gun shot. I punched it. At 12:49am, I heard him yell over the radio, "Officer shot! I need help.. Officer down!!" And that was it.. I got there and he is standing in the street bleeding from the arm... He pointed in the direction the guy ran and I took off.
That shit was terrifying. You can't imagine all the stuff that was going through my mind. I almost shot one of the neighbors b/c when I came around one of the trailer houses, he came busting from his porch toward me.
It was in the worst part of town and no street lights work over there. I'm walking around in knee high grass, in the dark with a damn flashlight and a glock trying to find someone that has already shot one of us... in HIS fucking neighborhood. Half the houses are condemned and the other half look like hell... and all of them are about 15 feet apart. He could have been anywhere and I would have been fucked if he tried to get the jump on me.
Anyhow, the officer will be find and we caught the guy. He'll be in prison for a while.
