I do, I do, I do beleive in ghosts~!

Taken from the cowardly lion off The Wizard of Oz, I guess I am what you would call a free thinker/paranormal Atheist. I do believe we have a soul where most Atheists from what I know, do not believe that at all. Maybe because I have experienced more than my share of what you call "paranormal phenomena" but I do not believe in any god heads or gods of any kind. A god is just something made up..kinda like the tooth fairy... people have heard of it, but no one has ever really seen it. Most of society has been brainwashed into this delusional false sense of security thinking that their so called religion is going to do them justice someday or save them or point them in the right direction or anything else they can point the finger at when the time comes. Religion serves no purpose. It hasn't done anyone any favors or proven that it is real or otherwise. If people would just stop for one minute and actually think about WHY they believe in what they believe in rather than just follow the crowd and think because everyone does it, it's the right thing to do, perhaps the world would be a better place to live.. killing in the name of all these dam gods is just plain insanity in my book. But when it comes to souls, spirit, or ghostly aberrations, it's always been a part of my life...
ok.. now I am curious, how many out there have had experiences or can understand what I am saying here... so what is soul, what is spirit.. what are soul mates, does that even exist?

I haven't had any experiences like that, the closest I have ever come to it is living in a haunted house and not knowing it was 'haunted'. I always felt so much fear and a heaviness there that I couldn't explain then as soon as we moved away, my husband told me all of the stories about the house and it kinda made sense to what I was feeling. But I was completely unaware of any of the stories while I lived there and felt the 'darkeness'. Kinda spooky I guess.

And I read somewhere in a Zen book I thought I would share, it kind of goes with what you were talking about.

"It is easy to believe when thousands of people follow the same beliefs, but would we have the courage to believe if we woke up tomorrow and everyone believed differently? This is true belief-to believe what we do because it is reallywhat we believe."

I don't believe in the soul or ghosts for all the reasons you said people shouldn't believe in god. I think that ghosts and "paranormal" activity is often something that either can be explained (just not by the person experiencing it), or perhaps can't be explained yet (which doesn't make it a ghost or paranormal). I see no harm in believing in them...it certainly won't drive you to war (would it).

My sisters insist they experienced a spirit in my grandfather's house when we stayed there after his funeral. A week later, bats were found in the attic and in the room they were staying in. They still insist that it couldn't have been a bat. My sisters are smart...very smart. And none of them are religious at all. They define themselves as "spiritual." But their experience was so convincing to them that the bats are still "spirits" in their minds. Fine. Weird, and in my opinion wrong. But fine. It's not harming anyone. I just think it's silly.

So I guess I don't believe in them because there is no verifiable evidence. But I don't really judge people for believing in things like that the way I sometimes judge people for believing in god and organized religion.

I don't believe in any consciousness separate from the body. I've never had any reason to.

What about dimensions that we cannot see? Could that explain some of the phenomena?

I find it convenient that ghosts and hauntings seem to simply vanish when subjected to closer inspection. Too convenient.

Jen, I think that extradimensional beings are too Doctor Who-esque to be considered plausible.
Comment by jen o on May 29, 2009 at 9:24pm
I've never watched Doctor Who. I don't know anything about different dimensions, I thought someone that did would reply about it and compare for me....how about you?

Well exactly what phenomena would you be trying to explain Jen? I'm not really sure I could see how dimensions beyond what we're able to comprehend could explain a "bump in the night" or some mysterious encounter with dead spirits.

I dunno really. Just asking questions. I haven't ever had anything like that happen to me really. I am just curious. Maybe what I want to know more of is, can dimensions run together, exist in the same place as ours but we cannot see it? Is that a dumb question : /

I truly thing a lot of this can't be explained either.. just like past life regression, out of body experiences, and there is equipment out there that measure ghostly activity. The movie White Noise is a good show, but watch the special features first, the movie is set up to a scary thriller but the real explanations to it all is on mentioned in the features section.
