Why do people challenge belief in GOD? When they can challenge belief in the SOUL and SPIRITUALITY?
I have a hard time understanding why people argue for atheism in this time yet won't mention their disbelief in the soul unless it comes up in conversation. Most people I know KNOW there is no god... to me today's problem is the belief in the SOUL. I even know many agnostics and even atheists ACTUALLY claim to believe in souls!
My point is that despite there being no evidence in support of the soul far too many people still believe in them.. Or simply are afraid to mention that they don't.
If we were to challenge the idea of the SOUL. All the major religions have no foot to stand on... since they are ALL BASED on the idea.
If you think about it... every major religion is just a way of explaining what happens to your soul after you die. So if you can convince people that there is no soul. You convince people that there is no god. Semantics. Arguing against each meaning of the word God and each individual appearance of the word God seems like a losing battle when you could simply cut it off at the source of these irrational ideas. The soul.
I've noticed over the years that people have a hard time admitting or "coming out" in their disbelief in the soul. Almost like they they would be admitting that they are less of a person somehow for not believing they have a soul. I find myself being the only one and would love it if more people would join me in this.
15 years I found myself to be a bit of an outcast for being atheist. Atheists couldn't openly speak of their atheism like they can today. I believe today belief in the soul is like that... maybe 15 years from now challenging the idea of spirituality will be "ok". Til then, i'll still be changing it.
