My mom works at a nursing home caring for seniors. She works in a diverse environment- ethnically and culturally. Although she is excellent at her job, her English isn't very good and she does not know how to use the computer. So what she does is whenever she is asked for an email address, she provides mine and I'm perfectly fine with it- so long as they don't spam me and especially so if they do not spam with me religious bullshit.

But it finally happened.

This lady- whose house my mom had gone to for a party because she had been promoted at work, has my email address and my mother had originally given it to her so she could send pictures of the party. It was supposed to be a one time thing.

She sent the pictures and everything was fine and dandy till she started sending me emails. These weren't directed at me specifically but were mass emailed to ALL the contacts on her list. She would send emails about "send this email within 5 minutes to show someone you love them", "Mornings blessings", "Epicure Products are HERE!!", etc.

I usually deleted them because I don't get too many emails and it doesn't take much of an effort to delete them. But they're annoying nonetheless and because my mother has to work with these women I didn't want my mom to miss out on anything lest she sent something everyone was supposed to know and be in the loop about.

But today the idiot crossed the IQ line- downhill.

She sent this:

Everyone could use a little bit of the following everyday:

Father Ignacio is the healing priest of the Rosary. He is excellent and truly cures. He has performed many miracles of healing. This is a novena of Father Ignacio that he began the 10th of January 2005, and still has not been broken. When you receive it, pray a Hail Mary and ask for a special favor. You will see what will happen the 4th day of having received this.

"Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen." (Ask for your favor)

Please do not break this novena. Send it to 12 persons that you believe deserve justice, peace, love, health, prosperity, and well being.

At that point, I lost it.

I don't understand whether she is stupid or plain unsympathetic to other people's backgrounds. A quick scroll through the list of names to which she sent the email to reveals clearly that a number of recipients are non-Christian. So after finally being fed up with this constantly spamming and sorry-excuse-for-a-mother woman, I finally labelled her as spam.

I think I did the right thing.

Has anything like this happened to any of you guys (especially those of you whose parents do not speak English well and have pesky native English speakers who try their lame Christian salesman skills with you)?

Please respond

I have had similar experiences but not because my folks gave my email addresses to their acquaintances. I used to receive lot of such emails but they have waned out because I used to reply back to the sender with either refutation or with some logical questions. I guess some people have removed me from their contact list :-)

I had an experience with family like this. I finally changed my email and refuse to give it to my family.

I suggest you setup a gmail account for your mother, there free, The when she visits you can sit her in front of the computer and let her do her thing.
