At the advice of several individuals, I've done an online search for hostels and shelters in my area. I've found a hostel in a vaguely close location, but all the shelters I've found are about fifty miles away. And some of those are as bad as my parents - they probably wouldn't hit me for talking back to them, but being religious institutions there'd be a lot of pressure on me to convert.

Still, it's not all bad. I've found an interfaith place (their allies include a Unitarian Universalist church), a day support place, and apparently I can get $2 showers at the YMCA. This would basically require running all over Boise, but I think it'll be doable. (If it comes to that. As I said, this entire thing is a last-resort plan ONLY. There are other, more reasonable methods that I would like to follow instead.)

Just some curiosities in trying to get the full picture of your situation...
  • Are you still in high school?
  • Do you have a job?
    • If not, can you get one?
  • Have you considered the idea of looking for a roommate?
Some other side thoughts if you do end up having to leave. Winter is starting, make sure you have warm clothes. If you're really going to be hoofing it, make sure you're packed light enough that you can carry everything, without exhausting yourself, and preferably with your hands free. Make sure you've mapped or scouted the places you plan on going. Also, either leave a note or send a letter, or something, so that your parents don't file a missing persons report with the police.

Hi from Glasgow Scotland.

Your basic needs are paramount here hen, your first fleeting thought should be were your going to stay.

for your own saftey please just bite your tongue and stay at one of the religious institutions. they will provide the basic needs you need to go forward, withhout these you will find life mauch harder.

Your young, dont speak out, millions are rightly scared of coming out and stay silent, so be go all proud on me now. Now give us a smile and remember to be strong in your own mind.

when your president , please remember me

take care lassie

Do you really have to leave home? What is your 6 month outlook? What is your goal? I would be bothered greatly if you were homeless still a year down the road. Is there a serious concern for your safety? Is there a past history of violence?

This puppy worries.

As I've said like a bajillion times before, I will not run except as a very last resort. I'm making good progress on getting out the regular way - I've got my own computer, I'm learning to drive, and I'm planning to get a job next summer. ONLY IF my mother kicks me out or becomes violent with me will I resort to measures this drastic.

And yes, there is a past history of violence. My mother's response to "mouthy" adult children is to slap them repeatedly.

Well, always good to have an escape plan. Good luck!
