Okay for those who already know I am a christian from birth. My parents are really super strict and I joined the site to further my knowledge of atheism. Also another reason I joined was because of that atheist sign that got stolen which I am sure you have heard on the news. the "enslavement of minds" part kinda made me start to look at atheism. Like i said in chat I have learned more about atheism in one day then my whole life.

anyways I can go more into details about this later

. But how do you guys explain haunted houses? Or is it all a common misconception?

Thanks for you time.

Not on the Haunted house subject, but on your first sentence. Despite what people may have told you in the past, YOU are not a Christian from birth. Your parents might have labeled you that and told everyone that, and taken you to church.....ect But no child has any idea what faith and religion are, so classifying one as a certain religion is not appropriate, from my point of view at least. I'm sure it’s all you knew from birth thanks to your parents, but in their defense, it’s all they probably knew from birth as well. Same for their parents....so on and so forth. Hopefully humanity can start to put a wedge into that process and get people informed about atheism and it being a choice alongside religion to live your life by. The Internet is really helping this campaign.

As far as haunted houses go, it’s all a bunch of BS, especially those shows on TV. People will believe anything they are told if they allow it. And as one person said the mind is a funny thing. You can make yourself see something if enough people tell you it’s there.

Haunted houses are likely a figment of the imagination. Our brains are programmed to process noises and sights to determine if they maybe a threat or not. When you enter a home assuming it's haunted your brain is going to attribute a lot of 'white noise' as being something that could be a threat. Basically, people trick themselves into believing something is much more than it really is.

Regardless, no one can really disprove this, because one cannot prove something doesn't exist, especially when existence is a word/concept made by humans (not unlike the bible :).

The ghost shows on Television, are complete BS. If you've ever seen it where they send one person with a camera and tell a person in the van that "this room feels dreary", or, "or just got really cold", is so funny it should be illegal.

Being an Atheist, I do not believe in really anything super-natural, or an afterlife.

I won't go into details, but 2 times in my life, I have been in the presence of something that would commonly be associated with a "ghost". It was in the presence of multiple people, and there were no drugs or alcohol involved. I cannot describe how much I wish I could explain, or put in a way that would help me sleep at night, but it was simply unexplainable. The things I could claim to have happened, really would sound ridiculous to another person...

So, I indeed find myself at some crossroads here.

I'm not saying I do or don't, but this would certainly never change my mind about religion. That's why Agnosticism exists :P
