Okay for those who already know I am a christian from birth. My parents are really super strict and I joined the site to further my knowledge of atheism. Also another reason I joined was because of that atheist sign that got stolen which I am sure you have heard on the news. the "enslavement of minds" part kinda made me start to look at atheism. Like i said in chat I have learned more about atheism in one day then my whole life.

anyways I can go more into details about this later

. But how do you guys explain haunted houses? Or is it all a common misconception?

Thanks for you time.

What substantial evidence is there for a house being haunted by anything supernatural?

The theme of haunted houses isn't universal. Different cultures have different myths about their "restless dead" and not all involve an old house where things move and make "scary" noises. If it were a verifiable fact, it HAS to be universal. Just like religions, it is dependent on culture and folklore.

I think about it this way. If you spend the night in a old house and hear noises its just a old house. But if you sleep in a house knowing its "haunted" and hear noises you freak yourself out. The brain is funny.

I would also add that all hounted houses don't have a single explanation, just a single misconception. Each house will have it's own reason for being called haunted. If you generalise all hounted houses, yes it is difficult to explain en mass, but take each one individually.

The important fact is that there has never been a valid, verified, tested, objective and confirmed ghost experience.

Pity tho...it would be cool!

Altho it mightn't be cos if mediums are correct they would spend their time whispering "My name begins with P!!" at you.

"Ghosts" can be measured with electronic equipment. I have no doubt that they are there. However, it would take a HUGE amount of convincing for me to believe they are dead people. They are probably just entities that we just don't understand yet. Calling them the ghosts of dead people is like saying "oh, it was God," when referring to unanswered scientific questions.

I doubt Ghosts are dead people, assuming they are real I'd day their just another random species than we now little about...

I doubt ghosts are anything but figments of people's imagination. Show me the money.

thanks guys for you responses! I would agree after reading your guys comments that it is more based on imagination then anything else. I am really glad I found this site. I really appreciate having you all to ask questions about this stuff! (although, I still clear my browser history etc when I view this site :(

Not a problem. :)

I consider hauntings to be more of the imagination than anything. Everyone loves to think the bump in the night is something even if it turns out to be the dog next door. The fears people have will always make something out of nothing even if proven wrong. Its just human nature to fear or look for something.
