I am posting this as a blog because I wanted to write a comment about the video.
The story in the video is about those in the fundamentalist movement who take the bible literally when it says you should beat a child. The book that is referenced in the video goes into detail on how this should be done. As a father I am sickened by this.
There have been a couple posts recently on how atheists should be respectful of religion and let people do what they want as long as they keep it to themselves. As long as it doesn't affect us. These people did just that. They beat their children, according to the bible, in the privacy of their own home. It didn't affect me right?
This is why I fight. This is why I am vocal. This is why I have a disgust for religion. This is why we need to stand up and speak out. Because, the little girl who died could not speak up for herself. This behavior is in-humane and whether you are on the fringe like this family or just refer to the bible now and then when looking for excuses on how to behave, to me they are all equally accountable for the death of that child.

If you start a war, so be it. The people who would argue for tolerance here are out of their minds and any religious fuck who would agree with this is a monster.
Comment by Great Dane on August 19, 2011 at 6:13pm I fully agree with this viewpoint. I don't respect religion at all and I barely tolerate it. We need to be loud about the stupidity of scripture. Ultimately, all religions are equally bad.
Comment by Ghost The Smoker on August 19, 2011 at 6:32pm This just disgusting. And people will still be blind. Even after stuff like this continue.
The Amazing Atheist did a video on this:

Comment by Jerod on August 20, 2011 at 5:42am This is sick. There is an ocean between spanking your children and killing them. These parents were cruel and used God as pitiful excuse.
Comment by Craig Nomazlab on August 20, 2011 at 11:50am That is fucking terrifying. And their "justification" is that "god wanted them to." A demonstration of the atrocities people are willing to commit in the name of their god. Any god who would order his followers to ruthlessly beat children to death to "train" them, is not worthy of my worship.

Comment by Star Lippmann on August 20, 2011 at 1:16pm @ Jerod: Yet they do it in the name of a god that you subscribe to... They may be "sick in the head" as you put it, but there are many things done in the name of your god that are overlooked.
They're no different than someone who starts a war in the name of your god as far as I'm concerned.
