Yesterday my friend on Facebook posted something about Jon Paul the Great being beatified and I couldn't help but point out how much child molesting that had gone on during the "Great's" reign. I posted this link and the Catholics found apparent problems with it. Saying that Jesus hung out with thieves, and other people who were bad with people why shouldn't Jon Paul the Great isn't that better for him to do that with Maciel. They kept challenging my view points on the issue of child molestation saying where is the documentation that ties the Pope to the child molestation cases. (New and JPII) I talked to him about the crimen sollicitatonis but they said that was to limit solicitation. I need some help here because no matter where I pointed him they denied the source and said where is the proof. Can someone give me some "legitimate" sources that they cannot deny. They also said something about an LA prosecutor who said that half the alleged cases were false. They also told me that science disproves its own self which I do not get. Thanks

If they made that remark about science those people are completely lost to reality.  Any 'evidence' you put forth regarding the molestations and rape will be disregarded.

What they are doing is making a conclusion (The Pope is great) , therefore anything that refutes that conclusion is by necessity invalid.  It's how creationists work and also how many religious work.

Ironic that they would ever say anything so insane about science when they have not a clue what proof actually means.  *Facepalm*

I gave them site after site after site of legitimate sources that showed the Catholic Churches problem and covering up of child molestation cases and they kept telling me they were invalid I was like are you stupid. The part that really pissed me off was them saying that the victims of abuse should forgive the fathers that ruined their lives (It apparently helps the healing process) They asked me a tough ? because I am not as into astrology and don't really research a lot of science revolving the Earth's rotation they asked how did it get into that pattern. I just said that we are figuring that out by observing other galaxies out there. Does science have an answer as to how the rotation got there. The Catholics call it intelligent design but it really is creationism

They sound more like evangelical Protestants than Catholics. Tell them that they are morons if they believe in ID or biblical creationism  because Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI have both spoken out to say that biological evolution by means of natural selection is how life started and that Genesis is just a story, written by people who didn't understand science.

Second, and I may butcher this as I am a student of social sciences and not hard sciences, rotation in space is caused by vectoring angles. Gravitation caused by larger bodies creates a pull on smaller ones which may be moving in different directions. In the accretion discs of solar systems most everything starts moving in the same direction and thus begins to have orbits in the same direction due to gravity caused by high mass at the center where the star will form.

Facts will get you no where when going up against the"Neener Neener Neener I CAN"T HEAR YOU" line of logic  that they are using.  It trumps all fact.  I used to be Catholic  and my whole family is still Catholic and looking at it from the outside it has to be one of the most arrogant presumptuous of all of the religions. Once you see the emperor ( the pope ) has no cloths the whole thing looks ridiculous. Good luck trying to convince them of anything. They just let Galileo off of the hook in the 1990's.

really that is interesting Johan I might have to bring that up I think it is dumb because only Catholics can be called into "saint" hood yet other great leaders such as Ghandi aren't as special according to the Catholics
