Ex-Athiest writing a book on how to save you godless heathens

hi there friends. i am an ex athiest and im a putting togethter a book/blog for christians about understanding and then saving athiests. I PROMISE, I AM NOT TRYING TO SAVE YOU! but i would greatly appreciate your input.

like i said i used to be an athiest. actually i was more of an anti-christian. i was very thorough wile compiling my arsenal of anti-christian material, and was very articulate when fighting christians. i had a long list of great arguments against christianity, but i could use more.

lets face it. alot of christians are annoying, i agree, but the big idea here is that most christians have absolutely no concept of life without god. so they dont understand athiesim at all. one of the purposes of my book is to illustrate that athiests are not all terrible satanists. that alot of them are actually really good hearted people.

if you are willing to help me out i would appreciate it. if not, feel free to tell me to go to hell lol... please respond to the following 2 statements/questions

what is your best argument against jesus. not god, but jesus specifically????

Isn't Jesus god? If you want arguments against the historical Jesus, then the simple lack of any historical evidence for his existence is more than enough.
If you want an argument against the religion that Jesus spawned, then we must also argue against god, since he is one and the same according to mainstream christianity.

what is the most annoying thing about christians? or what do you dislike about christians????

The fact that they keep coming to atheists with arrogant and insulting assumptions that we need to be saved or that we are empty inside because we said our goodbyes to our imaginary friends when we grew up.

I'm not sure why atheists would help you write a book about how to "save" us (aka proselytizing). On one hand, I appreciate that you're trying to show atheists in a positive light. On the other hand, if you truly understood atheists, you'd know they don't need "saving".

I'll play.

There is no physical evidence Jesus ever existed. He was supposed to be a scholar (or rather, a Rabi), yet he never lifted a finger to write even a single word (that would've lent some credibility to his existence at least). I find that highly suspect. Since Jesus (the alleged Son of God) couldn't be bothered to write about himself, we have to depend on second-hand accounts written 70 years after his crucifixion. Paul had a hallucination and decided he'd been called to tell the world about someone he'd never met. Also highly suspect. And Paul's version of Jesus doesn't even fit with Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John's version.

Additionally, I don't find any of his "miracles" all that miraculous; they were more like parlor tricks. In the 21st Century, our technology blows everything he did out of the water. Sure, his tricks were cool when people had just crawled out of their cave-dwellings, but... the Creator of the Universe could've done some tricks that would've impressed people throughout history... and maybe taken the time to document and verify it on his own. But, assuming this guy existed, he obviously didn't have any timeless tricks up his sleeve that would impress those of us to can communicate with people on the other side of the planet instantly. My iPhone can do more than Jesus ever did.

Main argument: ZERO physical evidence. Second argument: only second-hand accounts of his life **70** years after he was gone. Third argument: the idea of virgin births and demigods came from the Greeks, not from the Hebrew Jews. Christianity is a marriage of two very different religions. Have you taken the time to study Judaism? Christianity barely resembles it even though it claims that Abrahamic religion is its source.

I think you know why Christians annoy atheists (or anyone else that doesn't subscribe to their religion). They think everyone should be following the mandates of the Bible even if they don't buy into its message.

Instead of quietly and humbly practicing their personal religion at home and with fellow-Believers, they're busy trying to force it into government policies that affect everyone's life. In order to hang on to their narrative of the truth they reject verifiable evidence. Statistics, math, science, research... unless it aligns with what they already believe, they say it's all lies from Satan.

And then, while they're busy oppressing people and taking away their freedoms, they try to act like they're compassionate, Jesus-like people. They act like they've got a monopoly on morality, all while driving homosexuals to suicide and allowing pregnant women to die rather than give them a life-saving abortion. They're taking away people's freedoms and wondering why people dislike their "harmless" religion of judgment and oppression!

STOP trying to proselytize and force your religion down people's throat; that's how Christians can be less annoying. But, that's not really possible, is it? Because this guy, who no one's met, told you to pester every to death.

what happened to all that information you collected? Did you suddenly lose it? If you still have it, then just keep using. Besides we are not in need of salvation!

You notice the contradiction in this statement. You say you want to save atheists, then you don't want to save us and we are atheists! Which is it? Saving us or not saving us?

In your estimation how should this be our problem?

Go to hell!

If he existed, he was suicidal! How do you go stepping on people's toes and expect not to suffer the consequences.

what is the most annoying thing about christians? or what do you dislike about christians?

what you are trying to do here!

Profound incuriousness , ignorance , history denial , fact denial , science denial , wishing for the world to end , wishing for an end to civilization , loving death more than life , pathologic egotism and stultifying arrogance . These are all symptoms of monotheistic delusional disorder in general , and the Christian delusion in particular . The only help for you Cameron , is to open your mind to the natural world as it actually is ,seek psychiatric help for egotistical delusions of grandeur , or ignore the truth and persist in your primitive , self agrandizing fantasies . Good luck !

one of the purposes of my book is to illustrate that athiests are not all terrible satanists. that alot of them are actually really good hearted people.

It's spelled ATHEIST.  You spelled it incorrectly... not once, but six times.  And yet you want me to believe you were one?  Somehow, I don't think so.

There are good people and nasty people.  You are trying to attribute that to religious/non religious reasons.  At the risk of rolling out a virtual cliche, perhaps you could start by writing a list of the mass destruction activities carried out in the name of Atheism.  Note that I did not say "by atheists", but in the name of Atheism, i.e. to promote Atheism.  Whilst you are scratching your head and staring at that blank sheet of paper, imagine how much easier it would be if you were trying to write the equivalent list for activities carried out in the name of Religion.

I do not believe you are trying to write a book.  To write a book, you really need to have a good grasp of the written language.  I see you have a CAPS LOCK key.  Ideally, that should be used at the start of each sentence, and when using the personal pronoun.

The word you were looking for, is "while", not "wile".  I am not a 'grammar Nazi' but I do expect a would-be author to be able to grasp the basics of the language he intends to rely on to communicate his message.

Consequently, I do not believe you.

You are not the first "ex-atheist" I (or we) have encountered here. I can not believe someone who is a conscience, thinking, informed, intelligent atheist would ever convert. It is usually a ploy to engage us. Please enlighten us as to what atheism meant to you, how "deep" was your atheism, and why you felt the need to convert? We are gonna get to that eventually,so  let's just dig right in there !

Nup, wasn't, isn't, never will be an Atheist. And as Robert said, not the first 'ex'atheist to come here pretending to be. I am not answering this bloke, but as a general observation, one of the things that has intrigued me is the fact that theists are actually afraid to die, and will do anything not to. Why have an operation, or go to a doctor at all, if they believe there is a god/jesus.
Are they not praying hard enough, or is their god just sitting on his hands, looking the other way.

To begin with, it might be advisable, before you write a scholarly book about atheism, that you learn how to spell it correctly (atheism).  You might also want to take a 4th grade refresher course in capitalization, since you committed 38 errors of omission in this regard.

There are also 8 punctuation mistakes (Have you heard about these things called apostrophes?).

And, besides "athiest," there are a couple of other misspelled words, as well as grammatical errors, but that would be me indulging in my infamously obsessive, grammar-nazi nitpicking.

Be that as it may, your description of yourself as “very articulate” is hardly supported by this posting.

As to your questions:

My best two arguments against the existence of Jesus are... that there is not an iota of evidence that he ever existed (The Bible is not evidence); and if the “miracles” attributed to him are beyond natural explanation, which they are, it is prima facie evidence that he, like his “miracles,” never happened.

Honestly, I find Christians more amusing than annoying; THEY find ME annoying.  Don’t you?

So, here is how your post sounded to us:

hi there, CAMERON W.  I am an ex christion and im a putting togethter a book/blog for atheists about understanding and then freeing christions.  I PROMISE, I AM NOT TRYING TO FREE YOU! but i would greatly appreciate your input.

lets face it. alot of atheists are annoying, i agree, but the big idea here is that most atheists have absolutely no concept of life with god. so they dont understand chrissianity at all. one of the purposes of my book is to illustrate that christions are not all terrible worshipers of the supernatural. that alot of them are actually really good hearted people.

if you are willing to help me out i would appreciate it. if not, feel free to tell me to burn for eternity lol... please respond to the following 2 statements/questions

what is your best argument against the scientific method, not reason and observation, but the scientific method specifically????

what is the most annoying thing about atheists? or what do you dislike about atheists????

Comment by matt.clerke on January 17, 2013 at 5:33pm

what is your best argument against jesus. not god, but jesus specifically????

We don't need an argument AGAINST Jesus. You need an argument to convince us that Jesus, as described in the bible, is real. It's a burden of proof thing.

what is the most annoying thing about christians?

That they don't seem to care how many facts we present to them, they never accept them and instead cling to their dogma by saying " well you just have to have faith" or some other rubbish.

or what do you dislike about christians????

The arrogance that they think the whole world either is Christian or should become Christian.

Hope that helps. Also, I'd like to say that I find you similar to the other Christian apologists in that I do not believe you are a Christian, you are just acting so you can put out your book and make money. Honestly, the lies those guys tell cannot be explained by mere ignorance.
