Obviously his spelling sucks, but get past that. He is not the brightest crayon in the box, has a few disorders, but he is married to a good (and smart) friend of mine, so I don't want to hurt his feelings or even really get in to a debate with him. But maybe just one line to show an erroneous thought process would be enough.
My first comment is on strategy. People don't usually ask stupid questions because they think it is a stupid question. If you respond to this person as if you think he is stupid then you aren't likely to win him over or get him to consider your response. If you want him to consider your response, I recommend treating his question as if it were intelligent.
That said, here is how I would respond: "That's a good point. If all life is related through evolution then when we eat plants and animals we are, in a sense, eating relatives. At the same time, if we were all created by the same Creator and He breathed the same breath life into each of us, animal and man, as it says in the Bible, then we are literally eating our breathren (breath-ren).
Do you think God created us to be cannibals?
But the main thing to understand here is that evolution doesn't care if Jeffrey Dahmer does wrong or not. Evolution is a non-intelligent process incapable of determining right from wrong. We, as intelligent beings, are the ones who determine right from wrong. In our society, we determined that needlessly killing and consuming other members of our society is wrong."
Since I am related genetically to every human on the planet I can call anyone in the street a close relation (or closer than bacteria, anyway). If I did call some random person a close relation they would politely (or not) point out that we have no relation whatsoever. This is a social concept that a relation is a more idmmedite family member rather than someone who shares a common ancestory. They are just adding a moral quirk to a fact that is irrelevant. Would you consider a person who's only relation to you is a grandfather several hundred years ago a relation? Or would you call him (or her) family? I think that what we socially call a relation is objective, but genetically it is not.
I am currently eatting berry yoghurt right now. I am consuming the milk of my great x10^whatever aunt and the flesh of my great x10^evenmoreso uncle. If this is canablism, then I am a cannibal and proud of it.
