Comment by Mr. Anderson on March 16, 2011 at 10:20am Ye, I love it. Don't get their music over here so was lucky that I happened to come across it.
Love the lines:
"In Catholic school as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black"
Great image.
Comment by Scarlette Blues on March 16, 2011 at 10:56am This is one of my favorite songs. I've told my husband over and over that this is to be my funeral song.
Death Cab's lead Ben Gibbard also had a band called The Postal Service. It's got more of an electronic feel than DC4C. Some songs to look up:
DC- We looked like Giants
DC- Where Soul Meets Body
PS- The District Sleeps Alone (another one of my favs)
Comment by Scarlette Blues on March 16, 2011 at 10:58am Another verse:
You and me have seen everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
It's nothing to cry about
Cause we'll hold each other soon
The blackest of rooms
Makes me wonder if Ben Gibbard (who also writes their music) is an atheist.
Comment by Mr. Anderson on March 16, 2011 at 11:43am Thanks for the DC4C recommendations.
I know of The Postal Service. Again, I happened on their song Such Great Heights by accident as it never reaches us normally. I bought the Give Up album when I was in the US a couple of years after hearing it.
Deadly album. Nothing Better is the best plinky-plunky song ever! :) Brilliant lyrics to it:
Will someone please call a surgeon
Who can crack my ribs and repair this broken heart
That you're deserting for better company?
I can't accept that it's over...
I will block the door like a goalie tending the net
In the third quarter of a tied-game rivalry
So just say how to make it right
And i swear I'll do my best to comply
Tell me am i right to think that there could be nothing better
Than making you my bride and slowly growing old together
I feel must interject here you're getting carried away feeling sorry for yourself
With these revisions and gaps in history
So let me help you remember.
I've made charts and graphs that should finally make it clear.
I've prepared a lecture on why i have to leave
So please back away and let me go
I can't my darling i love you so...
Tell me am I right to think that there could be nothing better
Than making you my bride and slowly growing old together
Don't you feed me lines about some idealistic future
Your heart won't heal right if you keep tearing out the sutures
I admit that i have made mistakes and I swear
I'll never wrong you againYou've got a lure I can't deny,
But you've had your chance so say goodbye
Say goodbye

Comment by Gaytor on March 16, 2011 at 6:30pm Mr Anderson, if I'm going too far off the tracks, I apologize. I like a lot of Death Cab's Music. Brother's on a Hotel Bed speaks to me about hitting middle age. The song is more about a relationship but most of the lyrics make me think about getting older and how strange it is.
I have used this version of The Scientist at a funeral during the photos of his life. It spoke to a number of us about starting over and the do overs we wish for in life.
