I've watched a lot of films and I've noticed that there are sometimes film that you just can't put your finger on them, all you can say is that they are dark in atmosphere, unordinary, unhollywoodlike...
No particular order:
The Navigator: A Medieval Odyssey 1988
Tenshi no Tamago (Angel's egg) 1985
La Cité des enfants perdus (City of lost children) 1995
Tideland 2005
Paperhouse 1988
The fall 2006
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover 1989
Taxidermia 2006
Salo or 120 days of sodom 1975
Caligula 1979
Dancer in the dark 2000
Drunken Angel 1948
Le proces 1962
Sonatine 1993
It's all about love 2003
Aguirre der zorn gottes (Aguirre the wrath of god) 1972
Der siebente Kontinent (The Seventh Continent) 1989
Gerry 2002
Happiness 1998
Såsom i en spegel (Through a glass darkly) 1961
Barton Fink 1991
Le Locataire (The Tenant) 1976
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari 1920
The quiet earth 1985
Children of men 2006
One of my personal favorites is "The Crow"
I can watch this over and over.

Comment by Gregor Basić on April 16, 2011 at 12:18pm didn't watch gummo, but it looks very interasting.
Also I forgot to put Waiting for Godot 2001, I know it's based on the theatre drama, but this version is very dark and nihilistic.
