Growing up I was in a fairly religiously ambiguous family. One of my cousins married a friend of mine whom was religious. Everyone started having kids at the same time and the next thing I knew, I was the lone wolf. I had a conversation about religion with one of my aunts once who asked, "Where do you get your morality?" My response was, "I don't have Jesus to forgive me. I have to live with my actions." I think that I struck a chord in her. Of course it changes nothing in her, but it did resonate.
The problem with morality with modern interpretation is that forgiveness clouds the black and white nature of our actions. Deepen the understanding of the Bible without having reconcile it with modern morality, and you end up with the righteous seeking only one source of right and wrong. Sanity goes out the window.
Many of us have heard of the C Street House or the "Family". Jeff Sharlet is coming out and talking about it. This is a group that claims to be founded in religion. In fact, they are listed as a church for tax exemption. It was a group of congressional members whom lived together and supported each other in religion and politically. The bad part is that they acted as a lobbying group without registering to avoid oversight, ethics violations and paper trails. Mega Churches are slated to be built on Military bases because of these guys. Their personal lives were no box of chocolates either. Several of them were having affairs, at least on of them occurred inside the house. Other men of god did nothing to change this behavior. But it gets worse.
Sharlet tells a story the Govenor Sanford is staying in power because he feels "chosen". Moreover, the rules of morality don't apply to the chosen. "morality is for the little people." The idea of people being chosen goes from David to Romans 13:1 Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God/ This group has turned this into real life governmanship. Where have we seen this type of thinking before? Monarchies.
The Bible has come back to haunt us. Modern Christians have come to power and see themselves as being installed by god. Rules don't apply to them because they are in power and have been placed there by god. They flaunt it with the church designation. The flaunt it by not having to register as a lobby. The flaunt it by neglecting the morals of the Bible and modern social structures. This is the danger of Christianity. This is the danger of morality from upon high. This is morality with never ending forgiveness. You must live with your actions. There is a basic premise taught in Christianity that is true, even though I hate that it's fear based. You will be judged by your acts Iyeah yeah, by faith alone, by your faith and act.. I know the confusing drill). I don't believe that it's true in their sense, but you will be judged by history, and there will be consequences for your children to the 3rd and 4th generations.
If you only have 30 seconds of patience, watch 3:50 to 4:20... Rape of three girls by any of these guys is morally acceptable.
